When you decide it’s time to buy a home, there are so many important decisions to make:
“Where do I want to live?”
“Do I want a condo? A townhome? A single family home?”
“Should I buy pre-owned or new construction?”
And once you answer that last question, it may lead to a few more. There are so many great reasons to buy a new construction home, but to fully enjoy the process and to get the best possible house for you, you’ll want to choose your new home builder carefully.
Questions to Ask Before Building a New Construction Home
As you shop around and meet with new home builders, here are five questions you may want to ask.
How many years has your builder been in the business?
In the home-building business, experience matters. At Rezide Properties, our owner, Tony Perry, and our building partner, Chris LaFaive, have a combined 62 years of experience building new homes! It’s important to know that the people working on your house have the expertise to do it right and overcome any potential hurdles that may crop up.
Who will oversee the construction of my home? Who do I contact with questions as they arise?
This question is all about communication. Home building is a process, and you probably want to choose a builder that’s easy to work with and easy to get in contact with. Our motto is “Just live better,” and part of living that out means making the building process low-stress and fun for our buyers (and staff!).
What home warranties do you offer?
When buying a new home, quality is important! It’s safe to expect that little things here and there may need to be addressed, but you want to know that the builder stands behind their work.
Can I view a current or previous project that you’ve worked on?
To get a sense of the builder’s style, ask to see photos of previous projects. Touring a completed home may not be possible (it’s a bit invasive for the homeowner), but the builder may be able to show you a home currently under construction.
Can you provide me with references or testimonials from previous home buyers?
In the home-building business, reputation is everything. Do your research and ask questions to learn just what other clients think about the home their builder put up. At Rezide Properties, we love what we do, and it’s our goal to reflect that in the quality of the homes that we build and in the way that we interact with our clients.
